Accommodation:
For students at the School of Rural Health, the school manages accommodation in Shepparton, Wangaratta and Ballarat. The first priority is to accommodate students undertaking formal courses at the Rural Clinical School and the Department of Rural Health. Other students on placement are accommodated dependant on vacancies. Resident Student Advisors assist student residents and School of Rural Health staff with day-to-day operations of the School's student residences. They provide basic out-of-hours assistance to student residents, liaise with School of Rural Health administrative staff as necessary and participate as members of the School's Residences Advisory Committee. For more information, contact the School of Rural Health via the student reception on 03 5823 4507 or send an email to SRHaccommodation@unimelb.edu.au.
For students at the Dookie Campus (Faculty of Land and Food Resources), Dookie is located approximately 40kms east of Shepparton. There is on-campus accommodation for 300 students studying at both Dookie and outside campuses. There are mostly single rooms, but also self-contained houses. There is a major catering facility and lounge bar, and staff and students enjoy excellent sporting facilities such as a gym, tennis, squash, basketball, football and swimming. Own car is essential. For more information, contact Dookie Campus on 03 5833 9200 or visit their website, www.dookie.unimelb.edu.au.
Homestay - Goulburn Ovens Institute of TAFE (GOTAFE) has a listing available of residents (with police checks) willing to accommodate students. Availability cannot be guaranteed. For more information, contact GOTAFE on 03 5833 2555. Also, keep an eye on noticeboards on campus in the Goulburn Valley for private residents wishing to rent out rooms. There may not be a police check on these options.
Hostels - William Orr Hostel - William Orr Campus is located 8kms north of the city centre and provides hostel accommodation for up to 40 people in seven units. Weekly Accommodation (Sunday-Friday is $115 per week including an evening meal [Monday-Thursday] and breakfast [Monday-Friday]). Casual stays start at $30 per night (no meal). Own car is essential and students may have to share bathroom facilities with both females and males. An inspection is advised. For more information, contact 03 5833 2891 or 5833 2892.
Serviced Apartments - Serviced units generally cater for the corporate market more as prices are similar to hotel rates; varying from eg. $350-$650 per week (1-2 bedrooms). This price changes depending on how many people intend staying. House-sharing with other people may make this a more viable option.
