The School of Rural Health, comprising of the Department of Rural Health and the Rural Clinical School, is a rapidly growing area of the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. It also has clinical nodes at Ballarat and Wangaratta.
The School of Rural Health was established in 1998, and works in close
association with Goulburn Valley Health, community and indigenous
groups and other local hospitals. The Department of Rural Health (DRH)
provides high quality rural health and allied health education, support
and research facilities to the Goulburn Valley region. The Rural
Clinical School (RCS) established in 2001, provides rural clinical
training to one quarter of the Faculty's medical students in their
final semesters 8-11. There is established evidence which shows that if
students undergo a large part of their clinical training in a rural
setting, they are more likely to opt for careers in regional areas.
For further information on available courses, visit the School of Rural Health website.
