Bringing the University of Melbourne to Regional Victoria
A range of partnerships have been established by the University to strengthen ties with regional Victoria and provide support for rural and regional development.
Where is the Goulburn Valley?
The Goulburn Valley is situated in north central Victoria, two hours from Melbourne, with Shepparton the major provincial centre. The region has a population of approximately 180,000 and is an area experiencing strong economic growth. It is recognised as one of the nation's most valuable food producing regions and is strongly dependent on intensive agri-based industries such as fruit growing, dairying and food processing. A large proportion of the valley is irrigated, and the land and water resources are vitally important to the region.
Campuses and Centres in the Goulburn Valley
The University of Melbourne has two campuses and an administration centre in the Goulburn Valley.
- School of Rural Health
- Dookie Campus
- The Goulburn Valley Administration Office
From 2004 two new cross-disciplinary centres were established:
- The Academy of Sport, Health & Education
- Centre for Water and Landscape Management
These centres are being developed to address the regional and rural community needs and encourage broader University participation in their programs.
